EP 005:

How are EMDR and Brain Spotting Effective Tools for Treating Trauma?

With Amanda Morrow and Ian Chapman

In today’s episode, Mickenzie and Christopher chat with therapists Amanda Morrow and Ian Chapman to explore the therapeutic modalities of Brain Spotting and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing). Together, they explain how these two forms of therapy can help people address their trauma and decrease panic and anxiety by utilizing neurobiology and a trusted therapeutic relationship.

“I like to say that if you choose this journey, it is a journey that you get to be on for the rest of your life. Once you open your eyes to it, it’s just a part of who you are now, in a really good and beautiful way.”

– Amanda Morrow

Meet this episode’s expert

Amanda Morrow, MS, serves as Milestones’ Clinical Supervisor. In this role, Amanda ensures the clinical programming at Milestones remains top notch.

Amanda previously served as a Primary Therapist for the residents of Milestones, Onsite’s Residential Trauma Program. In this role, Amanda had the honor of walking with clients as they explored the depths of their pain and helped equip them to walk through that pain toward healing.

Before coming to Onsite, Amanda worked as a therapist in a residential treatment center that dealt with addiction, mental health, and trauma. In addition, she also worked as a psychoeducational therapist in an outpatient treatment center for adolescent males.

After attending Psychodrama and Experiential Training Institute programs for mental health professionals on our campus, Amanda left hoping to work at Onsite. She longed to work for a program that integrated experiential modalities to treat individuals holistically.

“There is value in learning more about trauma. But ultimately, if it’s kept under the surface, it will continue to eat away at us. One of the most important parts of the healing process is bringing it to the light and having it be seen and held by supportive people around you.”

– Ian Chapman
